The Westward Look Resort is sold out for our meeting.  The reservations office may be able to coordinate bookings at other hotels.  Some hotels have a shuttle but it may be more convenient to rent a car.  The Hampton Inn (520-362-2779) and La Posada (520-887-4800) have some rooms set aside for our overflow.

Group Rate:  $129.00 per night, single or double occupancy.  April 18, 2005 is the cut-off date for making reservations at the group rate.  Resort check-in time is 4:00 p.m.: Check-out time is 12:00 noon.  Group prices are honored before and after the meeting. The rooms are quite large and many can easily accomodate an extra person on a fold out couch or cot.

Location

Westward Look, site of the 1999 Weinstein Conference, is located in Northwest area of Tucson just 10 miles from the University of Arizona, an easy drive to Ina Road on either Campbell or First Avenue.  The closest airport is Tucson International Airport, 20 miles away, but the Phoenix airport is approximately 100 miles and fares may be cheaper into Phoenix from some airports..   While the lodging and grounds remain much the same, the meeting will be held in a newer and larger ballroom.  Westward Look is a lush desert oasis nestled on 80 acres at the base of the 9,000-foot Santa Catalina Mountains.  Birds and wildlife are abundant throughout the grounds.  Footpaths wind among cactus, jojoba, sage and pines. The sunsets and sunrises are spectacular. Clear night skies are ideal for stargazing. As biologists, you will find the Sonoran Desert ecosystem to be fascinating.

Transportation:  Transportation to the Westward Look Resort f rom the Tucson International Airport is available 24 hours via the Arizona Stagecoach (520-889-1000).  They do not take reservations.  They have a service desk in the baggage pick up area.  Individual rates are:  $32.00 one-way, $55.00 round trip.  If you have a group of 10 the rate is $90.00 one-way, $180.00 round trip.  The Arizona Stagecoach website is www.azstagecoach.com.

Accommodations

The resort offers large rooms with one or two beds, and many rooms also have a fold out couch.  There is a maximum of 244 rooms on the grounds so late registrants for the meeting may have to stay several miles away.   Free wireless internet access is available in sleeping rooms, along with TV, coffee maker and coffee, daily newspaper, robes, patio or balcony, ironing board and iron, blow dryer.  Snacks are available in the room for a charge.

Services

A fax and printer are available in the business office along with Internet access to check email.   Laundry service is also available.  There are 2 restaurants, the Gold Room for fine dining and a bar and grill that has live entertainment every Friday and Saturday night.  The Gold Room is one of the top-rated restaurants in Tucson and if you intend to dine there on Friday evening, we recommend that you make reservations before your arrival in Tucson.

Activities at Westward Look Resort

The website at http://www.westwardlook.com/nature/guided_adventures.php describes recreational activities at Westward Look.  During the meeting, sunrise will occur around 5:20 am and the first session begins at 9:00 am, allowing early risers some time to enjoy the cool mornings.  On-site options include tennis, horseback riding, swimming, birding, hiking and ball sports.  There are nature trails, guided nature walks, a morning nature tour, and specialty gardens. The resort has three swimming pools, three Jacuzzis, eight tennis courts, and basketball and volleyball courts. A recreation center offers yoga classes and water aerobics. The concierge service can arrange for transportation around Tucson and can assist you in making golf reservations.  At the previous meeting, many attendees took advantage of a late departure on Sunday to get in an early morning horseback ride before heading home.
